Salinometer: SCO 1
The SCO 1 salinometer uses the conductivity method to measure the approximate chloride (salt) concentration in crude oil. This measurement is based on the conductivity of a solution of crude oil in polar solvent when subjected to an alternating current. Knowledge of the chloride concentration - in g/m3 - gives information on the efficiency of the process desalter and provides a solid basis for assessing the need for crude oil desalting. Thecorrosion rates in refining units depend on the chloride concentration.
